Our History

The Northwest Missouri Genealogical Society is an all-volunteer society.  It was organized in April 1979, at a meeting held at Clasbey Museum, Savannah, Missouri, by thirty-five people who had taken classes at Missouri Western State College.

The Society represents nine surrounding counties, to wit: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth.  We also have many records from northeast Kansas counties:  Doniphan, Atchison, and Brown.

Many people have donated research books and other materials to the library. These books have added much data for the use of the library's patrons.  County and local governments have given many official records to the library, most of which are kept on-site and available for research.
