How to Use Surname Research

Introduction

The surnames listing is meant to be a place for researchers meet others who are researching the same surname. A distant cousin - or not so distant - may be just a click away!

Contacting members about a surname is available to anyone.  If you are interested in finding someone with a particular surname, click on the Surname Search.  If your name (or a facsimile of it) is listed and an envelope is listed in the leftmost column, you can send an enquiry to the person(s) who created the entry.  If there is no envelope, send an email to membership@nwmogenealogy.org to ask if we can connect you with the submitter.  If you are not a member be sure to include an email address to receive your reply.

Adding Surnames to our list is available to members only.  If you want to add a Surname, go to your Profle (under Member Login) and click on the Surnames tab to enter any information you have*.  If you had surnames to search in the past, please enter them again.  This new site includes more features to refine your searches.

Submitters are anonymous in this feature.  Users will be able to send you an enquiry through your email address which is on file with this website.  if you do not have an email to receive enquiries, you cannot submit names to the Search list.

* Note:  Requesting to have surnames added to this list is granting the NWMGS permission to use your email address for this purpose. We do not rent, sell or otherwise share your email address. Adding names to the list grants permission for users to contact you through the email address we have on file for you.  Your email address is not disclosed to the sender unless you reply to the sender.
